Ruth Dorothy Switzer
Switzer (Bray), Ruth Dorothy –age 67, of Dartmouth.
Our beloved Ruth has passed on October 13, 2018 in Westphal, following a long fight with cancer.
Born September 13, 1951 in Annapolis Royal, she was the daughter of the late Irene (Daigle) and Edward Bray.
She grew up in Westphal, graduated from Graham Creighton High School and attended Dalhousie University. She married Gordon following their first year of university and enjoyed over 47 years of wonderful marriage. Ruth quickly left her career to follow her sailor husband around the world and to raise a family while Gordon was forever at sea. A passionate historian, she loved to read history and visit historical sites, particularly the battlefields of the American Civil War. Nothing was more important to Ruth than her family. She was so proud of her two boys, now men, and her grandchildren who gave her great happiness at a time when there was little joy to be had. Ruth is survived by her husband Gordon; her sons David (Marlena), and Edward (Leanne); grandchildren, Alex, Teddy, Anna and Eve. She is also survived by her brother Allen Bray, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Ruth (Wallace) Bray who died in childbirth.
Family is everything. Our Ruth now rests with the Angels where, if we are fortunate, we will one day be together again.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at 11am on Friday October 19th in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main Street, Dartmouth, Rev. Pat Malin officiating. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the QEII Cancer Centre.
We wish to sincerely thank the nurses of the V.G. Cancer Unit, the Red Cross Home Care, VON Nurses and Palliative Care Unit. Without your always compassionate help this last year would have been impossible.
