Peter De Jong
Passed away peacefully at the Brockville General Hospital, Garden Street Site, on May 6th after a short and courageous battle with a rare condition of Amyloidosis. Peter De Jong, age 76, of Charleston Lake. Dear husband of Shirley (MacMillan- Kelsey) and predeceased by Corrie De Jong (Van Spriel). Loving father of Cindy Byker (Bill) of Brinston; Elaine Leeder (Brian) of Sunbury; Jarrod De Jong (Kim) of Redan, and Carl De Jong (Wendy) of Brockville. Proud grandfather of Natalie Luimes (Shawn), Holly Byker, Tracy Poirier (Christopher) and William Byker; Megan Leeder (Zach Spiler), Devin Leeder and Katy Leeder (Kevin Trites); Laura, Matthew, Brandon and Ashley De Jong & Ben, Jamie and Grace De Jong; and Sierra Kelsey. Dear great-grandfather of Eli and Aubree Luimes and Peter Poirier. Son of the late Gerrit De Jong and Ynskje Dykstra. Brother of Frank De Jong (Dorothy); Barry De Jong (late Roger Westall) and predeceased by a sister Catherine De Roos (late Stuart). Brother-in-law of Dick Van Spriel (Rita); Ed Van Spriel, and Cathy De Jong. Sadly missed by several nieces and nephews.
Peter is also survived by sisters-in law Lois Leach (Bill); Barb Kelsey, Carol, Shirley and Doreen MacMillan; and brothers-in law Joe MacMillan (Lee) and Gib Johnston. Predeceased by sisters-in-law Dorothy Johnston and Irene MacMillan; and brothers-in-law Leonard, Ellard, Allan, Eddie and Harvey MacMillan.
Family & friends may call at the Athens Christian Reformed Church, 14 Wellington Street on Wednesday, May 9th between 5 pm. and 9 pm.
Funeral service to be held at the Athens Christian Reformed Church on Thursday, May 10th at 2 pm., with interment immediately following at Glen Elbe Cemetery.
In memoriam to the Brockville Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Unit and the Ottawa Heart Institute will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
