OBITUARY
Patrick Anthony Turner
Born January 17, 1922
It is with profound sadness that we announce Patrick Anthony (Pat)Turner passed away in his sleep on November 17, 2018 at the age of 96.
Pat was a down-to-earth, no fuss kind of man. He was unimpressed by social standing and wanted to surround himself with people who cared firstly about others and doing the right thing. In this he found a perfect match in his wife, Bunny, whom he enthusiastically supported in many endeavors. Pat had a practical, no nonsense approach to life which brought balance to Bunny’s more enthusiastic approach. His most valued wish was for his family to be happy.
Born in England in 1922 Pat spent his early years at boarding school (Sherborne) later attending Cambridge studying chemistry. He honed his golf skills at university and flirted with the notion of going professional. His degree was interrupted by WWII where his knowledge of chemistry was put to use working in a munitions plant subject to German bombing. During this stint he spent many an evening at local pubs sometimes missing the last bus home but never missing work. Following the war he cruised the British roads in a 30 something MG vowing with his good buddy John Foote to never marry. Being one for adventure he decided to explore Canada with pennies in his pocket. Here he discovered the love of his life, Bunny, broke his vow to John and to the dismay of his mother decided to settle in Canada. With family in mind he took to a more conservative lifestyle working his way up the ladder at Dupont of Canada with jobs in Smiths Falls, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto eventually retiring as Vice President of Sales. He was determined to collect his pension for more years than he paid into it- something he over accomplished. His last move was in the late 90’s to be closer to family in Hubley NS.
He had a passion for collecting but not just about collecting, collecting with Bunny. His favourite collections included things Japanese, sad irons, cast iron banks, Torquay pottery and Canadian foundry products including larger items like push mowers and wood stoves. He took collecting seriously publishing many articles and could discuss at length the differences between a Mrs. Potts 4 or 5. His early collecting with Bunny were in coins and stamps where they opened a coin shop and were founding members of the Lakeshore Coin Club in Montreal.
Pat leaves behind his son, Chris Turner and wife Debbi (Fredericton) his daughter Kim Turner and her husband James Morris (Halifax) grandchildren Meisha, Dustin, Patrick and Katherine, great grand-daughter Zoë, beloved nieces and nephews and many good friends. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 63 years, Bunny who died Sept 17, 2016, his parents, Sir Sidney and Lady (Doris)Turner, his sister Betty Smith, brothers-in-law Bruce Smith and Dick Knight and sisters-in-law Sylvia Knight and Judie Wilson.
Special thanks go out to Carol(Home Instead) and Christa who enabled Pat to enjoy his most recent years at home and to Dr. Krista Thompson for always being available.
There will be a private celebration of life at a date to be determined. We love you Dad/Granddad-Pat/Uncle Pat.
