Obituary of Oscar Adair
Oscar Calvin Henry Adair was born on January 12, 1931; the youngest of 3 siblings. He was the son of the late George & Blanche (Wallace) Adair.
Born and raised in the Rockville area; Oscar worked for fourteen years for Sus Cheese and Butter. He then became owner of Adair’s Texaco/Ultramar and became a licensed mechanic. He worked there until his retirement in 1997.
Always active in the community; he was a member of the Shiners, The Waterford LOL #78 and the Masonic Lodge, as well as one of the founding members of the Sunflower Lodge.
In 1954, Oscar married the love of his life, Marlene. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage. They not only built their house but also a life and a tight knit family.
Oscar was a hard worker and passed this quality down to his 8 children; who all in one way or another helped with his work at the station. Whether it was pumping gas, filling ice bags, cleaning, mechanic work or helping with paper work; he always enjoyed having his family working alongside him, which allowed him to create such close relationships with his family despite working long hours, with few days off.
He was a proud and involved grandfather and would take any chance possible to talk about his grandchildren and their accomplishments. He spent quality time supporting them in all facets of their life: their sports, academics, hunting and fishing. He had the ability to make each grandchild feel like they were his “favorite” and left no doubt that they were loved by him.
Oscar was a man that would not hesitate to help anyone in need without asking for anything in return. He was a gifted storyteller who revelled in any opportunity to create mischief and fun. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and making maple syrup. Most of all he was a family man who provided a loving and welcoming home.
He will live on in the hearts of his loving wife of 64 years, Marlene (Parlee) Adair; Their children: Connie Phillips and her husband Gordon, Ray Adair, Patsy Parlee and her husband Lonnie, Stephen Adair, Susan Adair, Sharon Miller and her husband Peter, Paula Soper and her husband Ron and Barry Adair and his wife Stacy; his grandchildren: Mellissa Adair and her husband Laurent Vincent, Pamela Hanrahan and her husband Ian, Michael Phillips, Jeremy Parlee, Jason Parlee, Colton Adair, Paige Adair, Anna Miller, Maren Miller and Aleah Soper; his great grandchildren: Jensen Parlee and Quinn Vincent; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
