Miena Hoogenboom
HOOGENBOOM, Miena (nee Mina Hallink) Miena Hoogenboom of Richmond Hill, ON, born May 29, 1926 in Lemelerveld, Netherlands, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at age 92 on September 6, 2018 in her home of 38 years. Loved by her nine children Leonard Hoogenboom (Bonnie) of Hillsdale, ON, Wilma (Wilhelmina) Hoogenboom of Richmond Hill, ON, Letty (Lyntje) McNeil (John) of Tiny, ON, Edward Hoogenboom of Richmond Hill, ON, Irene Hoogenboom of Richmond Hill, ON, Peggy DeVries of Nelson, B.C., Paul Hoogenboom (Karen) of Woodville, ON, Mark Hallink (Alice) of Ravenna, ON, and Sam Hoogenboom of Tofield, Alta. Immensely proud of her eighteen grandchildren and fondly remembered by her fourteen great-grandchildren. Missed by her sister Shirley Wagenaar of Brampton, ON. Predeceased by her parents Gerrit Hallink and Mina Hallink (nee Meulman), her brother Jan Hallink, and her twin sisters Egberdina (Deen) van der Werf and Rika Bor, all of The Netherlands. Miena moved to Canada in 1948 with her husband Arie (Harry) and two year old son Leonard. She lived in Ashdad, Renfrew, Milton, Maple, and Richmond Hill, ON. Motherhood was her career and passion. She will be remembered for her love of gardening, her great resilience and endurance, her fashion sense, and her wisdom. Mom/grandma inspired us to work hard and do our best, and although she never returned to Holland, she created a bit of Holland in her home with kitchen shelves filled with delft blue pottery. With heartfelt thanks to the caregiver daughter Wilma with the help of the PSW Gina for their loving and resourceful care. Friends and family members may attend the Celebration of Life service on Friday, October 5 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., reception from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s United Church, 333 Crosby Avenue, Richmond Hill, ON. In lieu of flowers, donations welcome to Canadian Mental Health Association or St. Matthew’s United Church, Richmond Hill, ON.
