Ronald David McClelland passed into the presence of his Lord on August 8, 2018 after enduring an unyielding assault by an aggressive form of dementia.
Survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 60 years; sons Ken (Deb) and Dan (Cari); grandchildren Ryan, Erin, Jordyn, Lexi and Cooper; brothers Roger (Vicki) and Bob (Joanne) and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was born and raised in Vancouver. He graduated from Vancouver Tech School in 1956 and then joined BC Tel, where he had a successful career for 37 years. He and Shirley were married in 1958 and they raised their two boys with plenty of family adventures including trips to Disneyland, Alaska, across Canada and many camping expeditions.
Long-time members of Cedar Grove Baptist and Cloverdale Baptist churches, Ron was active as an elder, club leader, soccer camp worker and bass singer in Shirley’s choir. He also enjoyed playing his trumpet in the Delta Music Makers Community Band for twenty-five years.
In retirement, Ron and Shirley were snowbirds for twenty years and made many good friends during those trips in their various RV’s, which they loved. Ron was an avid golfer and enjoyed his days on the course with his good friends.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Saturday, August 18 at 1:30 PM at Cloverdale Baptist Church, 18685-64th Avenue, Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Hospital or Union Gospel Mission.
