Mary Paterson
Our mother, Mary Paterson, died September 22, 2018. She was born in Paisley, Scotland to James and Jenny Kennedy October 5, 1939. After the death of her mother, Mary was raised by several relatives, most influential her maternal aunt, Katie Steele.
Mom married Wilson Paterson in 1960. They immigrated to Winnipeg in 1966 with their three young children. Mom was a homemaker until 1970, when she began a thirty year career with McDiarmid Lumber.
Mom was a brilliant knitter and avid reader. She loved to spend time with family, and to travel. She said she saw much more of the world than she thought she would, traveling through Canada and the U.S. She also visited Mexico, Barbados, Venezuela, and Jamaica, and she treasured her time at family cottages.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Wilson and her sister Cathie. Left to remember her are her brother James, children Susan (Ray), Janice (Glen), Andrew (Sarah). Grandchildren David (Charmaine), Heather (Devin), Alex (Julie), Ian and Jenna, and all the friends and acquaintances who will miss her friendly, outgoing personality.
The family thanks Caroline Bitton, N.P. and the palliative care team who worked together to allow her to die at home, as she wished. Special thanks to mom’s friends Janice Sinclair, Mary Dewick, and Jean Horn, who continued to share their time with her through these last difficult years.
At mom’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to Winnipeg Harvest, or your local food bank would be appreciated.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Mary Paterson October 5 1939 September 22 2018 (age 78)..
