Kay passed away quietly in Royal Jubilee Hospital early November 29th. Kay was predeceased by husband, Huge (2006), sister, Eleanor (2008) and daughter, Robin (2012). She is survived by daughters Laura, Jean and Kathy (David), and son Ian (Kate), and grandchildren Taryn, Sean, Brodie and Peter. Kay was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan but moved with her parents and younger sister to Victoria when she was just 4. Shortly after arriving here, her mother died so she was raised by her father in the home of her cousins, the Dales. Kay lived in Victoria for the remainder of her life. Early in adult life she worked at the Capital Theatre before training for hairdressing, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. Kay was an active participant in her community particularly where the family was involved, volunteering at the schools and in other youth organizations. Once the family was grown, she spent over 20 years as a volunteer at Craigdarroch Castle, where she enjoyed learning the history of early Victoria and sharing this knowledge with visitors. The family was very important to Kay. She was well loved by her 5 children, as well as by their friends who enjoyed her company and cooking through the years. She was always interested in what visitors had to share. Through to the end, Kay maintained a positive attitude, lively spirit and ready laugh. With the kind help of her caregiver, Nina, Kay lived at home until 3 weeks before passing away in Royal Jubilee Hospital. The family would like to thank the staff of 4 South for the care and kindness they showed to Kay in her final days. A Remembrance Tea will be held at the home of Ian Reston, 3918 Dawe Rd, on Saturday, Dec. 29th, 2:00 – 4:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
