Death Notice
Peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Afton Park Place, Sarnia, in the presence of loving family, Marilyn ended a long and hard fought battle with C.O.P.D. at the age of 83. Marilyn has gone to be reunited with her beloved husband Lambert (Bert) Braaksma (1990) and her cherished son Robert James Braaksma (1984). Survived by her beloved children Gail Charman, Mike and Janet Braaksma, and Paula and Joe Lacasse. Loved Gramma of Jessica McClaren (Adam VanWijen), Robert Braaksma (Cathy), Nicole and Kevin Wygergangs, Michael and Julianne Lacasse, Katelyn Charman, and Mike White. Loving GiGi to Linnea and Owen Wygergangs, Abilynn Van Wijnen, and Eva and Nora White. Sister and best friend of Joni and Ron Robertson and Jim and Joanne Charrington. Sister-in-law to Gertie and Arnold DeVries, Joanne and Doeker DeVries, John and Lenny Braaksma, Gerrit Braaksma, Tena and John Vrolyk, Mary and Pete Zantingh, and Ed and Elaine Braaksma. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Marilyn is predeceased by her parents Jim and Delena Charrington, father and mother-in-law Pieter and Heika Braaksma, sisters-in-law Thelma Braaksma and Helen DeVries, and brother-in-law Hank Hoekstra. Marilyn worked in accounting at Stearns Catalytic before retiring. In retirement, Marilyn enjoyed running a small ceramic business and volunteering for many years at the Strangway Centre where she met and enjoyed the company of many friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. with an hour of visitation prior. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Lung Association or St. Joseph’s Hospice for the Longterm Care Palliative Project (cheques only at the funeral home please).

A memorial service will be held at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. with an hour of visitation prior.
