EMERSON, MARGARET December 1917 – April 2018. Margaret passed away peacefully on April 14, 2018 at the McKenzie Towne Long Term Care Centre in Calgary, at the age of 100. She was the beloved mother of Eldon Emerson (Madeleine), mother-in-law of Dianne Emerson, and Grandma of Shauna Emerson-O’Neill (Kerry), Scott Emerson (Page), and Erin Emerson-Maddox (Clint). She was a treasured Great Grandma to Molly, Declan, Ronan, Jack, Casey, Layne, and Logan. Margaret was predeceased by her sister… Dorothy Quaife, husband Clarence Emerson, sister Rosemarie Paulson, brother Harold Meyers, son Daryl Emerson, and daughter-in-law, Marlene Emerson. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Eldon and Madeiline’s family; Ryan (Ola) Hegholz , their children Matthew and Ella, Sara (Kevin) Wohlmuth and their children Emma and Charlotte. Margaret was the daughter of Rose and Ernest Emerson, and spent her early years in High River. She met the love of her life, Clarence and they married in 1937. As a newly married bride, Margaret lived in High River, and then Calgary, where she and Clarence raised two sons. She was a trailblazer of her time, choosing to work outside of the home in a local drug store, alongside her youngest sister. At home, she was known for her delicious cooking and her impeccable gardens. Amongst friends, she and her beloved Clarence were known as talented and passionate square dancers, who often traveled several miles away from home to dance. In December of 2017, Margaret happily celebrated her centennial birthday, receiving a letter from Queen Elizabeth, and enjoying the company of her friends and family.
Margaret is now resting at Snodgrass Funeral Home in High River 301 MacLeod Trail S, High River AB. Our family would like to thank the staff at Heartland for their loving care of Margaret for the past two years, as well as the staff at McKenzie Towne who cared for Margaret in her final days. At Margaret’s request, the family will be hosting a private service to honor her memory and celebrate her life in High River. Donations may be made in memory of Margaret to The Heart and Foundation, 100, 119 14 St NW, Calgary AB., T2N 1Z6 or to The Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd NE, Calgary AB T2E 2P5
