Obituary for Luiza Pinto
Luiza was a force, an unwavering spirit driven by her zeal to spread God’s love and joy with anyone and everyone. Born in Goa, India, the second of seven children, she left home at a young age to build her life, her family, and what is now her legacy. She spent some time in Bombay, India, some years in Beirut, Lebanon, and a couple of decades each in Muscat, Oman and Toronto, Canada.
Luiza made a name for herself in stage and film, appearing and starring in productions while in the Middle East. She was the first woman to write and direct a Konkani Tiatr in Oman, and won accolades for her contributions to Goan theatre. She was bold. She had boundless energy. And her infectious personality drew people to her. She built friendships wherever she went, in church communities, artist circles, and even Omani royalty.
Luiza proudly claimed that her family was her greatest achievement. She was married to her beloved husband of 35 years, Sarfaraz Pinto, and was proud of her children and their families: son Fahad and his wife Nihan; daughter Fedora, her husband Rinus, and granddaughter Siena Estelle; daughter Froila; and son Frederick. Luiza led her family with compassion, with reverence to her faith and with a strong emphasis on service to others. She would remind everyone, “Home is where the heart is.” And the home she built was like her heart, full of love and her distinct laughter.
She lived the Gospel, living fully in the service of others. Luiza gave of herself without hesitation to lighten someone’s burden and give hope to those struggling. She delighted in creating smiles, whether through the sharing of her impeccable culinary dishes (she knew how to throw a great party), donating items to assist someone in need, or engaging a friend or stranger in a conversation. Luiza was an example of gratitude through every adversity. And we are overwhelmingly thankful to God for blessing us with the undeniable powerhouse we called wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
In celebration of Luiza’s life, we encourage you to honour her by wearing bright colours for the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cancer research organization of your choice. Thank you.
