Lawrence « Larry » Francis Bonang
BONANG, Lawrence “Larry” Francis
Age 79, of Lower Sackville passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family in the Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax. Born in Middleton on May 28th, 1938 he was the son of the late Daniel and Viola Bonang. Prior to Larry’s retirement with the Department of National Defence, you could often find him under the hood of a car, or making of one his three favorite desserts; blueberry muffins (always hand picked), upside down pineapple cake, or German chocolate cake.
Larry loved to spend time with his family, often at the campground and always with the grandchildren; who knew him as Grampy. His grandchildren hold fond memories of their time with Grampy, from train rides and picnics, to large family gathering of holidays and celebrations. Music was a big part of Grampy’s life, from the grand ol’ opery, to playing his fiddle and mandolin for anyone who wanted to tap along to the music.
In his final months Larry treasured Sunday nights watching WWE along side of the nursing staff that often snuck in his room to enjoy it as well. Larry appreciated his afternoons listening to Natalie McMaster, watching Dr.Phil, and laughing along to Ellen. Family visiting time was cherished and enhanced when you arrived with a cinnamon bun and medium tea in hand.
He will be deeply missed by his loving children Carol Logan (Bill), Kathy Auld and Karen Hughes; cherished grandchildren, John, Noah, Liam, Hannah, Isaiah, Mackayla, Rylan, Connor, MacKenzie and Sarah; sister, Joyce Duncanson (Fred); sister-in-law, Faye. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Dawn; loving daughter, Angela “Angel”; sister, Betty; brother, Daniel. A special thank you to the staff of the Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home for their exceptional care and compassion and to Rev. Tammy Hodge for all of her ongoing support. In keeping with Lawrence’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held in May. Donations to the St. Nicholas Church, 29 Westwood Blvd. would be appreciated.
