DOCKRILL, Kenneth Gerard
Age 78 of Dartmouth, passed away after a long battle with cancer, peacefully at home with family by his side on Monday, December 10, 2018. Son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Zwicker), Ken grew up in Dartmouth attending St. Peter’s High School. In his early years, Ken worked in the automobile industry, eventually owning and operating his own business, Woodlawn Sports Centre until 1989. A competitive spirit, Ken had a lifelong love of sports. As a young man, Ken was an avid baseball player, paddler and fly fisherman. Golf was a lifelong passion with retirement years spent with wife Marguerite at Greens Folly Golf Course, Virginia where he perfected his game and developed many friendships. Ken was predeceased by brothers, Frederick and Erin. Survived by wife of 57 years, Marguerite (Miles); daughter, Denise; sons, Chris (Terry) and Bobby (Tracey); grandchildren, Heather, Claire, Jack, Jessica and Sarah. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks, for the quality of care Ken received from the VON of greater Halifax, CBI Homecare, the Red Cross and QEII Pallitive Care Team, especially Marlese Reid for her support and compassion during this difficult time. Special thanks to Cathy and Harold Morash for always being there for Ken and the family. A Memorial Mass and Reception will take place in St. Clements Church on Friday, December 14th, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s memory may be made to Victorian Order of Nurses of Greater Halifax (www.von.ca) or QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation to be alloted to 7A Pallitive Care Unit, VG Site, QEII (www.qe2foundation.com) or a charity of your choice.Arrangements entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home.
