Kathleen Louise Smith October 18 1934 December 21 2018

Kathleen Louise (Calder) Smith was born on Campobello Island, NB on October 18, 1934. The only child of Margaret Matilda (Newman) and (Hazen Desmond) Bertram “Bibber” Calder. She passed peacefully, on December 21, 2018.
She was one of four graduates from the Campobello Consolidated School in 1952. Kay began her studies to be a Registered Nurse at The Chipman Hospital and completed them at the newly built Charlotte County Hospital. She worked briefly in Washington State, but returned to CCH and worked there for thirty-three years until her retirement in 1989. She was praised far and wide for the wonderful care she provided the patients.
On her return to St. Stephen she met and later married (Wesley) Alton Smith of Victoria West, PEI on December 14, 1957. They settled in Oak Hill and raised a family of five rambunctious children. Kay has had thirty wonderful years to watch her family grow since her initial struggle with cancer. She and the entire family are very thankful for the care she received from the time of her initial diagnosis and the quality care into her final weeks from Dr. Norman Lister.
She is survived by her children Stephen; Jeff (Patty), their children Clinton (Ashley), Christopher (Karen); Kevin (Ellen), their children Melissa and Katie (Josh); Michele (Wesley) and their children Samuel, William and Margaret; and Mark (Patti) their children Amanda (Jamie), Michael (Hayley), and a beautiful great granddaughter Brooke.
The entire family is grateful for the support and compassion offered by the staff at CCH and Dr. Tom Golding during her final weeks.
At her request no visitation will be held. A graveside service will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm
Friends are encouraged to arrive at the Oak Hill Hall anytime after 1:00 pm for a warm drink prior to proceeding to the graveside.
The family are grateful for the support of our many neighbours and friends through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oak Hill Cemetery, Charlotte County Cancer Society, or the charity of ones choice.
