Karen June Evans
On November 1, 2018 at the Health Science Center,
Karen Evans, darling wife of Wayne Evans, passed away peacefully after her
battle with cancer.
Survived by her husband of 53 years Wayne Evans,
daughter Christy (Wade), cherished grandson Jacob and step daughter Kim
(Laurie), sisters Maxine, Pat, Debbie (Blair) and brother Jim (Diane), her
brother-in-law Garry Evans (Sheila) and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her loving parents George and Velma
Inglis, her parents-in- law, Lloyd and Ollie, and one of many favorite nieces
Sharon. Most importantly her beloved son Gregory, who left us much to early in
life in 1997.
Karen grew up in Flin Flon where
she attended Hapnot Collegiate. After graduating from high school she
moved to Winnipeg to continue schooling in a business program,
and eventually met Wayne. Karen and Wayne raised their family in St.
Vital, where she became part of community. She spent her time between helping
out at Windsor Community Centre and curling at the St. Vital Curling Club, the
ladies team. Karen worked as a ward clerk at Victoria General
Hospital and retired after 35 years of service.
Karen spent her summers at the cabin in Bay
Shore Heights, and later in life the winters in Progresso, Yucatan. Karen
spent much her time when in Mexico giving back to the community, knitting
and make warm clothes for the children of Progresso. She became known as the
bingo lady, helping her friend Sharron raise money for the local food bank. In
between the cabin and Mexico she would also spend time in Vancouver with her
daughter and grandson Jacob who just lit up her life!
After retiring Karen and Wayne moved
into the Vic Wyatt House where she and Wayne made many friends, including
her good friend Sadie who was a wonderful support through her battle with
cancer.

Funeral services will be held at Meadowood United
Church at 1111 Dakota Street on Thursday November 8, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Karen’s name to the
Fire Fighters Burn Fund or charity of your choice.
