BURNS, Josephine Rachel
With heaviest of hearts and our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother,
grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Josephine (Flora) Burns, 68. Josephine was called home on
October 13th, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck.
Born June 6, 1950 to the late Catherine Ann McLennan and Dan Neil Shaw. Josephine lived her early
years in Wreck Cove, but the last few years she resided in Sydney Mines.
She lived a full life of helping out in the North Sydney Legion Branch 19, and the Pensioners Club.
Josephine will always be remembered for her unconditional love and her willingness to help others in
need, a heart of gold. She was like a mother hen, taking care of other family members, young or old
(Nicky, Stephanie, Freddie and Lonnie). Plus, she cared for her special second Mom, Mae Keigan. She
loved going to the Legion dances and her karaokes.
She is survived by sons, Ian (Mae), Robert (Adrienne); daughter, Marie (Fred); grandchildren, Santana
(Jordan), Isaac, Logan, Victoria (Tyler), Charmaine, Ethan, Ryan, Amanda, Rebecca, Shayna, Jenna,
Carissa and Reanna. Also left to mourn are her sister, Anne; brothers, Gerald, John (Marlene), Murdock
(Marlene), Billy (Sally), Wayne (Wendy), Richard (Laura), Freeman, Donald; sister-in-law, Sheila Shaw;
first husband, Hector; she also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and her little dog Katie.
Besides her parents Josephine is predeceased by her husband, Laurie Burns; son, Freddie Burns; brother,
Abraham Shaw; sisters, Nelly Mae, Peggy and brother-in-law, Bill Mischiek.
Visitation for Josephine will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday October 18, 2018 at S.W. Chant and
Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney. A celebration of her life will take place the following
day, Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate.
