It is with great sadness that the family of John Russell Beatty announce his passing on October 02, 2018 at the age of 89. He leaves to mourn his son Gordon (Stella), his daughter Barbara, his grandson Jordan (Allyson), his granddaughters Katrina, Keely and Alexandra (Ryan) and his brother Denis.
John was a professional engineer who worked in chemical and mechanical engineering. His expertise was in air conditioning and refrigeration and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge for many years with students at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). Over John’s lifetime he volunteered with many organizations including St. Luke’s Anglican Church, St. Paul’s Anglican Church , the Canadian Bible Society and Pioneer Ranch Camps to name a few.
John loved the outdoors and enjoyed many hiking and backpacking trips in Alberta, Ontario and Washington. He loved to hike and canoe with his beloved wife, Nellie who predeceased him in 1994. John was a heath enthusiast and started jogging long before it was in vogue, which kept his neighbours entertained. He had a deep appreciation for the arts and thoroughly enjoyed music, art and theatre.
Besides his immediate family, John will be lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law Harvey Lammer, sisters- in-law Margaret Lees and Fern Lees, many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his wife Nellie, John was predeceased by his son-in-law Len Bracko, siblings Herbert and Dorthea and parents Dorthy and Harry.
A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home at 16204 Fort Road, NW (access off 153 avenue only) Edmonton, AB. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations in memory of John can be made to The Canadian Bible Society.
