Obituary for
John Albert Cain
CAIN, John Albert
1940-2018
Surrounded by his family, John passed away at Health Sciences North, in Sudbury, on June 3, 2018. John’s business life started at the age of 15. Over the years, he was a partner in many companies such as; Northern Allied, Norox and Nasco Propane. In 1985, he started Cain Safety Fire Protection and his son, Michael, joined him in the company in 1987 where they worked side by side building a successful company until his retirement at the age of 70. He was actively involved in various sports in the community. Over the years, he was President of the McIntyre Curling Club, President of the Northern Ontario Curling Association and Co-chair of the National Seagram’s Mix. John firmly believed in mentoring adolescents through sports. He coached football at Ecole Secondaire Theriault and managed both the Miller Paving and the Timmins Majors hockey teams. Some of John’s fondest memories were made at the cottage at Gibson Lake with his family, friends and dogs (Roxy and Bucky). It was truly his “happy place”. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Arlette (Gratton), his children and grandchildren who received his unconditional love; his son Michael Cain (Alana), his daughter Jody Dewasha (Phil) and his grandchildren Brittany Cain, Samantha Cain (Kyle Racicot), Nadia Dewasha and Curtis Dewasha. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Jane Cain (Calbick); his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Shirley Cain. He is also predeceased by his two brothers-in-law; Richard and Gerald Gratton. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Nicole Gratton, her daughter Robin Carrey and his niece Margaret Calcaterra (Greg). He was known for his generosity, compassion and patience. As a friend so aptly put it, he was “a man of integrity”. The family would especially like to thank John’s primary doctors, Dr. Christian Durepos and Dr. Malvinder Parmar. He was also fortunate to have received excellent and compassionate care throughout his illness from the medical staff at the Timmins and District Hospital and the Health Sciences North hospital. His family will always be grateful for this. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation or to Sports for Kids Timmins. There will be no formal funeral service. Instead, the family invites you to attend a “Celebration of Life” on Friday the 8th of June from 1-4 pm at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
