Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan (Crooks) Brodie on September 12, 2018 in Oshawa Ontario. Joan passed away peacefully in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. In 1942, Joan was born to the late William and late Florence Crooks. Joan lived in Peterborough until she moved to the Oshawa area in the late 1970s, where she started her career as a Registered Nurse at Oshawa General Hospital. After Joan retired from Oshawa General Hospital, she could not stay away from nursing. Joan went on to work at Rouge Valley Ajax, and then fully retired after working at a retirement home in Cobourg. Joan was an avid quilter, a passion passed down from her mother, and was an active member of the Kindred Hearts Quilting Guild.
Joan will be missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Tracey, brothers; Richard, Roy (Diane), Donny (Karen), and sister Janice (Ian), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special thank you to Roy and Diane, friends Gary and Liz, and the staff at Traditions Retirement Home for all of their care and support during Joan’s illness.
Friends and family are welcome at the MOUNT LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby (905-443-3376) from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Sunday, September 16. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 17 at 11 am at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 812 Hortop Street in Oshawa. Interment will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens in Whitby.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joan’s memory to Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre in Oshawa.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Joan Elaine Brodie 2018.
