Jack was born at Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. He received his education in Webb, Sask. and finished his high school years in Swift Current. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Woodside to help his Dad farm. Jack worked for the Bjarnarson’s at Steele Bridge, as well as, spent some winter months in the pulp mills, north of Thunder Bay. In 1957, he met his wife, Janet Adams, at the Woodside store where she was staying while she completed her practice teaching. They were married August 11, 1959 and moved to Nanton, Alberta where he was employed by Crown Lumber. In 1962, they moved to Pincher Creek, AB, where he worked on the oil rigs. While there he received his carpentry training.
In 1964, Ronald was born, followed by Elaine in 1966. In the spring of 1966, they moved to Swift Current where Jack was employed with Nelson Homes. In 1967, Catherine joined the family, and shortly thereafter, Jack and Janet retured to Woodside, Manitoba to raise their family. Jack would work with his dad, Trueman, on the farm. In 1968, Joanne arrived and in 1970, Leah completed the family.
Jack continued with his carpentry work along with farming from 1967-2000. He enjoyed curling and baseball with the young people of Woodside-Steele Bride. He was also a councilman for Ward 2 of the R.M. of Westbourne.
In 2000, Jack and Janet sold the farm and retired to Gladstone. Once in Gladstone, he spent his time at the Senior Centre and the Legion – partaking in playing pool and cards. During the summer months countless hours were spent golfing at the Gladstone Golf Course. Jack was a councilor for the Town of Gladstone, as well as continued with his wood working. He spent many hours in the shop making pieces for his family and friends. He had the pleasure of mentoring a couple of local ladies and passing on his woodworking skills.
Due to his declining health, Jack spent his last few months at the Third Crossing Manor.
Thank you to the Gladstone Senior Members for all their support given to Jack at the Senior Centre and the Gladstone Golf Course. Sincere thank you to all the staff at the Third Crossing Manor for the care Jack received.
