Passed away with family by his side at Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital on Monday October 15, 2018 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Margaret for over 54 years. Loving father of Anna and Samuel (Mary Beth). Proud grandpa of Mitchell, Helen and Charlotte. Son of the late Samuel and Betty Houston. Dear brother of Jean (late Ron), Betty (Ian), and the late Sammy (Caroline), Margaret (John) and Freddy. Survived by his sister-in-law Charlotte. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families in Canada and the U.K. Ian was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He moved to Canada with his family in 1973. Ian worked at Canadian Blower Canada Pumps for many years until his retirement. Special thanks to the incredible staff at Freeport and Grand River Hospitals for your exceptional care.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A Gathering to Celebrate Ian’s Life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the War Amps or Grand River Hospital Foundation – Freeport Hospital (Palliative Care) would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
