In his 100th year at Oakville, ON on November 20, 2018, Hilton Francis Dinner passed of an age related ailment, remaining positive and thankful to the end for a rewarding yet challenging life. Predeceased by his wife, Frances, daughter, Elizabeth, daughter-in-law, Lorie; he is survived by his two sons, Paul (Debbie) and John (Maureen), son-in-law Darrell (Ginger); grandchildren, Sarah (Scott), Graeme (Kate), John (Tasha), Michael (Sarah), Christopher (Erika), Emily (Scott) and Julia (Kurt); great-grandchildren, Gordon, Maggie, Charlie, Gabriel, Emmie, Xavier and the Staley family, Kris, Liah, Kierra, Amanda and Rachel.
Growing up, acts of kindness provided Hilton with direction and opportunity during times of upheaval; Hilton will be remembered by many as recipients of similar kindness. Born in Dinsmore, SK in 1919, Hilton was sent at age ten, after his mother’s passing, to Bracebridge, Ontario to live on his grandparent’s farm. After graduating from Bracebridge High School, he began a 41-year career with Royal Bank of Canada.
His transfers led to meeting Frances Marie McElhone, his wife of almost 60 years. They would go on to live and raise their family in London, Strathroy, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Nassau, Montreal, Bellaire (Florida) and Oakville. The highlight of his remarkable career was as Managing Director of RoyWest Banking Corporation in Nassau.
Hilton and Frances retired to Bellaire, Florida for 25 wonderful years before relocating to Oakville, ON. Hilton moved to The Kensington in Oakville following Frances’ passing where he resided for 14 years.
Hilton lived a life of quiet generosity and hospitality, supporting many in need.
The family thanks The Kensington staff for their care and support and to Dr. Kate Healy, Wilma Jabat and myriad other caregivers for their assistance, particularly over the last 20 months.
Family visitation will take place Friday, November 23, 2018 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street). Funeral to take place on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Matthew Roman Catholic Parish, 1150 Monks Passage, Oakville, ON. Reception to follow.
