We sadly announce the passing of Helena Frances Wall, formerly of Shelburne and most recently of Northwood Centre, Halifax on December 3, 2018. Born in 1924, Helena was the daughter of Ross and Sarah Swansburg of Jordan Branch, Shelburne County. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Robert Wall, her sisters Jessie McClearn, Ellen McKinlay and brother Lewis Swansburg. She is survived by her nieces, Carol McClearn, Halifax; Elizabeth (Ronald) Bailly, Head of St. Margaret’s; Pat (John) Hatfield, Toronto Ont.; Mary Jane (late Terry) Walker, Oshawa; nephews Robert McKinlay, Peterborough Ont. and Rick McKinlay, Toronto and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Helena was a loving caring person to everyone. She cared for her husband, Bob for over forty years after his stroke. She learned to drive late in life which enabled them to share their lives together. They looked forward to attending the West Nova Scotia Regiment reunions as Bob was a veteran of the Second World War. She worked in the early 1950’s in Toronto. Returning to Shelburne, she worked at Shelburne Woodworkers. She married the love of her life, Bob in 1954. She enjoyed baking, reading, bowling, a good game of 45’s, watching the activity at her many bird feeders and family gatherings. She always had fond memories of growing up at the family homestead. Special thanks to Dr. John Keeler, Shelburne, staff of Roseway Hospital, VON Nursing Services, Shelburne caregivers Yvonne and James Decker, Danny Stewart, Linda Young and Leah Bower. Helena’s family would also like to express gratitude to the staff at Northwood Centre, especially staff of 7C for their compassionate and loving care over the past several years. Visitation will be take place at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne on December 20th at 1:00 PM. A celebration of life service will be held at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne on Dec 20th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Cindy Dunnett presiding. Reception will follow after service. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Shelburne. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
