Halim
Halim, Gunawan (Aaron), passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 after a short but brave battle with cancer. Aaron was born on October 5, 1935 in Tebing Tinggi, Sumatra, Indonesia.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 60 years, Wisita Halim, and his children: Michael (Tia) Daniel, Nita (Mike) Liu and Sandy (Paul Pew) and his grandchildren: Christine Daniel, Elisabeth and Ezra Liu and Zachary, Jackson & Abigail Pew. There is also a large extended family of nephew, nieces, and cousins in Indonesia.
He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Johanna and brother, Andreas both of Indonesia.
Aaron started life in a very small village in Indonesia. Despite his humble beginnings, he always felt God’s hand with him, enabling him to go college in Boston, Massachusetts for accounting and eventually immigrating to Canada with his family.
Aaron had an extensive community of friends, was very active in the church, and TOTALLY embraced technology maintaining a blog where he shared his views on God, politics and other matters. He also loved to travel, in particular cruises in the latter part of his life, and spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in the palliative care ward at Etobicoke General Hospital for their kind and loving care of Aaron during his final days. We also would like to thank his live in caregiver, Rowena Busi, long time physician Dr. Dmytryshyn and a slew of personal support workers, in particular Angelina, Oici and Allen, who gave our family a huge amount of support, in his last few months when his mobility was reduced but his mind was as sharp as ever.
A visitation will be held at R.S. Kane Funeral Home at 6150 Yonge Street on Friday, April 6 between 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Kane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the Gideon Bible Society or a charity of your choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Gunawan
