We lost Glenn three days before Christmas – the result of a sudden heart attack, occurring just after we returned home from lunching in town. He was 89.
Glenn was born in the little village of Poplar Point, Manitoba, to Minnie and John Dyer, the local blacksmith. He was the youngest of a family of eleven, all of whom predeceased him. He moved to Victoria in 1962, with his wife, Kathleen, and five children: Anne, Barbara, Mary, David and Rob. His youngest, Heather, was born here. Glenn was a truly talented mechanic and owned a very successful automotive repair business and gas station, Oak Bay Texaco, for a number of years. He became president of the Highland Games and St. Andrew’s & Caledonian Societies and was a skilled silversmith, lapidary and wood turner. He found special pleasure in the beauties of nature, the Orkney Islands, babies and small children and making people laugh.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen, in 1991 and by daughter Anne in 2016. Lovingly remembered by wife Sylvia; children: Barbara (John Petrie), Mary (Bernie) Follweiter, David (Franci Glesby), Rob and Heather; grandchildren: Kaylee, Lauren, Alana, Cole and Michelle and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Glenn will be held at St. John the Baptist Heritage Church, 537 Glencairn Lane, Colwood, on January 9, 2018, at 2:00 pm. If so desired, contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC, in Glenn’s memory, would be welcome.
