Gladys May Zwicker 19232018

Gladys May Zwicker
1923-2018
With the sun setting on a warm Spring
day, comforted by the presence of family, Gladys May
(Brown) Zwicker passed away at the Sackville Memorial
Hospital on May 31st, 2018.
Gladys was born July 25, 1923, in Port
Williams, NS, to the late William Lewis and Annie Verniece (England)
BROWN. Besides her parents, Gladys is predeceased by
brothers Harry (Doris) Brown of Steam Mill, NS, Gordon (Mildred) Brown
of Petawawa, On, and George (Berylene) Brown of Steam Mill, NS.
Gladys is survived by sisters Helen (Floyd) Pearl of
Kentville, and Jane (Robert) Harvey. She is also
survived by her husband of 71 years, Eugene Leroy Zwicker, of the
Ridgewood Veterans Care Facility of Saint John, NB, daughters Shirlene
(Jim) Johnson of Condor, Alta., Ardyth (Ronald) Hagerman of
Fredericton, NB, sons Greg (Deborah) of Riverview, NB and Garth (Gwen)
of Sackville, NB as well as numerous grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved dog
Molly.
Gladys was the oldest daughter of the
family and grew up on a farm in the difficult years during
WWII. The hard lessons learned in those difficult years
stayed with her throughout her life and formed the methods by which
she raised her own family. As a Military wife, in 1958 she moved to
Oromocto NB with her family, then to Werl, Germany, from 1962-1965,
returning to Oromocto where she worked at the Oromocto Hotel and then
on Base Gagetown as a server in H22. She and her husband retired to
Geary in 1970.
Her greatest pleasures were when her
children succeeded in areas of education where she herself had had no
opportunities. She always encouraged respect and good behaviour
towards others.
Gladys loved to knit, sew and crochet in
her leisure moments. She made scrap quilts in the old
fashioned way for her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to sincerely thank
the staff of the Sackville Memorial Hospital and Doctor Allison Dysart
for their care and compassion.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to
Jones Funeral
Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, and at the request
of the family, there will be no visitation. Burial will
take place at the Geary French Lake Waterville Memorial Cemetery,
French Lake, NB, at 2 pm on June 23rd, 2018,
Pastor Larry Matthews officiating.
Donations in memory of Gladys may be
made to Alzheimer’s, Royal Canadian Legion, War Amps Canada, or a
charity of the donor’s choice.
