Gladys Elma Moore
1925-2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Elma
(Cooper) Moore announces her passing on July 20th, 2018 at the age of
93. Gladys was the loving wife of the late Darrell S. Moore (67 years)
and daughter of the late Stuart and Martha Jane (Hunter)
Cooper.
In addition to her husband, Gladys was predeceased by her
sister Doreen Brueton; brother Clinton Cooper; brother-in-law Fred
Brueton; brother-in-law Lloyd Moore; sister-in-law Gloria Swetnam and
nephew David Moore.
Gladys was born in Saint John where she spent her life. Her
work career began at Schofield Paper and continued as the executive
assistant for Sears at Lansdowne Ave until her
retirement.
She was active in the United Church of St. Andrew and St.
David serving on the Board of Stewards, chair of the Fund Raising and
Building committees and a charter member of the UCW. The
I.O.D.E. and its activities were a great part of her life since
1957. She was President of the Dr. William MacIntosh local
chapter as well as Provincial President. She contributed to
the development of the « Born to Read « program which is now a
prominent provincial program for children.
Gladys was a dedicated volunteer at numerous organizations –
the Self Help Crafts store, UNICEF, N.B. Music Festival, the Aitken
Bicentennial Center and was a board member of the Diagnostic Center
for Children with Learning Disabilities
Gladys and Darrell were long standing members of the Royal
Kennebeccasis Yacht Club and enjoyed endless time cruising and
entertaining on « Gypsy » with family and
friends.
But most of all, Gladys was a loving mother and wife and the
center of our family. Many family summers were spent with
Doreen, Fred and their children, Jane and Diane. Her cooking
was renowned and extended family dinners on the weekend were a
tradition going back a generation.
Gladys is survived by her sons John (Sylvia Comuzzi) of
Fredericton and Paul (Anne Gormley) of Rothesay; grandchildren Jessica
O’Neill (Ryan) of Rothesay, Ashley Soltani (Nader)
of Vancouver and Jonathan (Lindsey Murphy) of Halifax; great
grandchildren, Georgia, Cormac and Lochlan
O’Neill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Shannex Embassy Hall,
Quispamsis for their tireless and wonderful care and support for Mom
and our family.
