Lewis, George J. – The death of George Joseph Lewis of Upper Golden Grove, NB, formerly of Quispamsis, husband of Barbara A. (Fleming) Lewis, occurred peacefully surrounded by his family following a brief illness, on Monday, December 24, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on September 2, 1945, he was the son of the late George Shiban and Annie Josephine (Stephen) Lewis.
George was an Electrician by trade working with various companies over his successful career. He was a proud member of the I.B.E.W. Local 502 for over 50 years and was a member of the Canadian Lebanon Association. George enjoyed hunting in his younger years, tinkering around with anything that could be fixed and was an avid gardener and card player. His pride and joy was his family, especially his grandson, Ethan.
Besides his wife, Barbara, he is survived by one son, Marc and his wife Jennifer of Dartmouth, NS, one daughter, Crystal of Saint John, two brothers, Gabriel (Bootsie) Lewis and John (Donna) Lewis, one sister, Marina Gallagher (Gerry), brother-in-law Richard Gauthier (Pat), all of Saint John, grandson, Ethan Joseph Lewis, one uncle, Joseph Stephen (Della), special friend Dawn Chedore and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Debbie Gauthier in 2002 and his twin sister, Georgina Ptinis in 2006 and special friend Roger Chedore (2006).
In keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4347 Loch Lomond Road, Saint John on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 12:00 Noon, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. (646-2424).
