It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of George Herbert Evans on Dec. 14th, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta to William Morgan Evans and Ada Edith Millard. He was predeceased by his wife Anne in 2010, and his brother Bob in 1991. He is survived by his children Gayle (Matt), Deborah (Kevin), and Bryan (Eduardo); his grandchildren Andrew, Christie (Steve), Brittany (Peter), Kenny and Alex; his great-grandchildren Evan, Amber, Benjamin and Aiden.
He moved to Victoria at the age of 6 with his parents and his brother Bob. He attended Sir James Douglas, George Jay, Central High and Victoria High schools, as well as Happy Valley for a short period of time when he lived outside of the city. After attending business college, he started working at the Scollard Building for Leo Grogan. He then worked at HA Humber Ltd., which was eventually taken over by Pitfield MacKay & Co. He later became a stockbroker and moved to Pemberton Securities where he became a Manager, and then a Vice President and Director. He finished his career with RBC Dominion Securities, retiring in 1996.
As a young man, he was involved as an equestrian rider on the Tyson property located on Cedar Hill Cross Road, which was later developed into townhomes which he and Anne lived in for several years. As an adult, he continued with his love of sports becoming very active playing squash early on and then playing tennis and golf into his 80`s. He and Anne travelled the world for many years, passing on that passion for travel to many of his children and grandchildren.
We would like to thank the staff at Carlton House and Parkwood Court for taking such good care of our dad in the past few years.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria BC on Saturday, March 30th, 2018 at 2:00 pm. He will later be reunited with our mother Anne at Royal Oak Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to one of the following charities that he supported – Canadian Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, or The Kidney Foundation.
