She will be re-membered by her sister-in-law Emma Fox of Pembroke and brother-in-law Walter Meitz of Bancroft. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, many relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. James the Less Catholic Church, Eganville on Saturday October 20, 2018 at 1pm, followed by inurnment in the parish cemetery. Reception will follow.
Ethel was born in Schreiber, Ontario, the 4th of 7 children. In her early 20’s she fell in love with and married Jack Devon. After their wedding, she and Jack moved to Mattawa and then lived for several years in Sudbury and Elliott Lake while Jack travelled through northern Ontario for work. In 1960 Ethel and Jack settled in Jack’s home town of Eganville with their three children.
During this time in Eganville, Ethel and Jack were very involved in the community and St. James Catholic Parish. After Jack’s passing in 1976, Ethel continued to be very involved in the church and community.
It was through her love of dancing and as a member of a square dancing group in 1991 that Ethel met, fell in love with and married Al Meitz. Ethel and Al lived for 15 years in Barry’s Bay on Kamaniskeg Lake. During this time, Ethel experienced the sad loss of her dear son Terry. Kid-ney failure and a subsequent kidney transplant also marked this time.
After Al’s passing, Ethel moved back to Eganville to be closer to her son Bill and her many friends. For 9 years, she continued to be very involved in St. James church, her bridge club and the seniors’ centre.
Over the years she returned to Schreiber as often as she could to enjoy time with her family.
In 2015, Ethel moved to Supples Landing Retirement Home in Pembroke. In keeping with her enthusiasm for life, she became a caring and appreciated member of the Supples Landing community.
Ethel loved her life wherever she was! She lived life to the fullest with great enthusiasm and cheerfulness!
She constantly reminded her family how much she loved her cosy little apartment and life at Supples Landing. She thoroughly enjoyed her dinner conversations, playing cards, bingo, and sharing family stories and photos with her friends.
Ethel was an amazing woman-strong, loving, kind, caring, warm and cheerful, resilient and de-termined. She had a genuine interest in people and the world around her.
Her strong Catholic faith was a major part of her life. This faith carried her as she dealt with the losses of her son Terry and infant daughter Mary Teresa, her husband Jack and her husband Al.
Her faith and her love of life helped her through many health issues in her later years.
Family was of utmost importance to Ethel whether she was visiting with or chatting by phone with Bill and Colleen on a daily basis, chatting with her sisters Edna and Rita, nieces and many friends, visiting with and/or face timing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cherished every conversation, photo and every bit of news.
Ethel loved sports especially in her younger years-tennis, biking, skating and curling. She was an avid reader and loved to play bridge and euchre. She shared the love of dancing with both Jack and Al. She danced her way through life and we’re sure she is still dancing in heaven.
We all have our own unique and special memories of Ethel. Please share your memory in the Condolences and Tributes section so that we may all better know and remember our dear Ethel.
