Obituary of Dorothy Smith
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Emma Smith, age 84 from Neville Street, Dominion.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 63 years, William (Bill) Smith, who cherished her dearly; her children, Janis, Florida, Brad (Kelly), Dominion, David (Melva), Reserve Mines, Kevin (Hazel), Toronto, and sister-in-law, Carol Macmillan; Glace Bay.
She is predeceased by her parents, Bessie (Moore) and Harris Stevens; a brother, Lloyd in infancy, and sister-in-law, Shirley Smith.
She is survived by many grandchildren, Andrea Lee, Jennifer Lee, Shannon Carey (Chris), Jessie and James Smith. She was a great-grandmother to Kenzy and Noah Lee, Ryan, Peyton and Kohen Binder, and Kaden Slade, all of whom, she adored. Dorothy has a new mission that has taken her to a wonderful and new place where she will continue to flourish in the hobbies for which she loved best. This included baking, gardening and conversation with those she adored most. Dorothy has left detailed instructions for her loving husband and family in the celebration of her life. A gathering will take place at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Thursday, December 6 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the nurses and doctors in An Cala and the Renal Dialysis Unit at the Regional Hospital. Also special thanks to Dr. Gordon Spencer for the care he gave Dorothy over the years. We are very grateful to everyone.
