CAMPBELL, Dorothy Edna
MIRA/LOUISBOURG
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our mother Dorothy on
October 5, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, just 2 weeks shy of her 91st birthday.
Mom was the youngest daughter of the late Duncan and Willetta MacDonald and the last surviving
member of her family. Born in Hillside, Mira, she resided there most of her life on Gesner Point. She
graduated from Sydney Academy and worked at the General Office.
Mom enjoyed her life on the Mira, whether it was swimming, skating, fishing, boating or relaxing. She
was an avid skater in her youth and took great pride in donning her racers. She was a fine seamstress,
upcycling clothing before it was fashionable. She enjoyed being active outdoors tending her garden and
keeping her lawn well mowed. Many memories were made at the bungalow built by her family.
She was well known for her work in the community and was a founding member of the Ladies Auxillary
of the Albert Bridge Fire Department. She was Treasurer for many years. Her involvement led to her
passion for Darts and she played with her longtime friends until she was 89. She was also a member of
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62, Louisbourg.
Mom was proud of all the accomplishments of her eight children, Judy Doyle, Cathy (Jon) Lawrence,
Donna (Wesley) Coleman, Margaret (Hector) Smith, Tom (Rosalie), Joyce (Reg) Donovan, Duncan
(Penney), and Sandy; grandchildren, Matthew Doyle, (Heather), Mark Doyle, Natalie Coleman (Bruce),
Allan Coleman (Candace), Jennifer Smith, Jason Smith (Chelsea), Meghan Schaller (Ryan), Greg Donovan,
Sheumas, Logan, Liam Campbell (Chelsea), Kayla Buckland (Keith) and Eric Pushie. Grammie especially
loved her great-grandchildren, Jack, Duke, Brielle and Blakely. Mom was also survived by in-laws, Flossie
MacLean, Donnie Campbell and Joe Braunmiller and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1975; sisters, Lena, Mildred, Laura; brother, Allister and
son-in-law, John Doyle.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael MacDonald, his colleagues, and the compassionate staff of
the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Harbourview Hospital. Mom appreciated the kindness of her
neighbours at 5 Lorway St., Louisbourg and her City Homemakers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday October 11 from 5-8 p.m at Bethel United Church, Marion Bridge.
Funeral service to follow on Friday, October 12 th at 11 a.m. at Bethel United Church Marion Bridge with
Rev. Emily Duggan and Rev. Laurie MacCuish officiating. Reception to follow. Interment will be at
Oakfield Cemetery.
