Obituary of Donald Baker
Donald “Bagsy” Forbes Baker, 86 of Windsor passed away on November 13, 2018, in Haliburton Place. Born in East Flamborough, ON, he was the son of the late Myles and Vera (Hasafelt) Baker.
Bagsy’s career was filled with adventure, as he worked his was through the ranks becoming a Chief Petty Officer, Second Class with the Royal Canadian Navy. He served on nine ships, HMCS Magnificant, HMCS La Hoiuse, HMCS Lauzaon, HMCS Huron, HMCS Cape Scott, HMCS Yukon, HMCS Ottawa, HMCS Marguerite and HMCS Annapolis. He was a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor Branch #9, Fairview Mason Lodge #126, John Albro Lodge #122 (Bedford), Atlantic Chiefs and Petty Officers Association, Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association and the Windsor Curling Club. Bagsy was also a devout member of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Hants County.
He is survived by his second wife, Eileen Myrtle (Smith) of Windsor; children Rex (Brenda) Baker of Lake Echo; Scott Baker of Anmore, BC; Lori (Kevin) Linden of Georgetown, ON; step-children Stephen Fitzgerald of Mosherville; Donna (Bob) Clousson of Mosherville; Wanda (Steven) Singer of Mosherville; Nancy Fitzgerald of White’s Lake; brother Larry (Darleen) Baker of Cambridge, ON; sister Judy Attridge of East Flamborough, ON; grandchildren Craig Baker, Michelle Baker, Kurt Baker, Jake Baker, Jody Baker, Kayla Linden and Mark Linden; great-grandson Leo Ivey; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Jean Baker.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor Branch #9. Memorial donations may be made to the St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Box 482, Windsor, NS, B0N 2T0. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
