Donald John Mattason
Holding the hand of his loving wife Iris, Don peacefully passed away after a long battle with cancer on the morning of September 14, 2018 at the age of 87. He was a loving husband of Iris, proud father of Lee (Laurie) and Terri (Andy) Ledlie, and grandfather of Justin and Lauren Ledlie and Erin and Amanda Mattason. Born in Hamilton he began his football career at Cathedral High School and played for the University of Toronto, followed by the Calgary Stampeders. He was a self-made business man, rising to a variety of leadership positions for several Canadian firms. The family appreciates the compassionate care shown by Dr. Michael Trus at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and the nurses on 3 West at St. Peter’s Hospital. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home, 378 Wilson Street East, Ancaster. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be left at dbancaster.ca.
