Obituary for
Catharina Van Ryn
Our mother, Catharina (Cathy) died suddenly on Saturday, September 1 after a life well lived.
Cathy was born in The Hague, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with our father Martin in 1957. After some initial struggles with homesickness, our mother settled happily into Canada and soon became a very proud Canadian. She and our father worked hard to provide security and comfort for their four children and somehow managed to launch us all successfully.
Cathy was employed by the St. Amant Centre as a Nurse’s Aid for over 20 years. She loved her work with the children there and fondly remembered many individuals she cared for even after she was beset by Dementia. It was at St. Amant that our mom learned to speak English and it was English that, soon after, became her first language.
Mom was predeceased by our father, Martin and leaves her four children to cherish her memory: Irene (Bob) Bilan, Martin Van Ryn, Harry (Gail) Van Ryn and Darlene (Mike) Lamontagne. Mom will also be missed by her grandchildren Chantal and Danielle L’Heureux and Martin and Alexandra Van Ryn. Mom was predeceased by her brother Leo and sisters Trudy and Thea. She is survived by her sisters Helen Van de Vorst and Gerry (George) Van der Zalm and her brothers Fred and Bill Wieffering. She will also be missed by her best friend Elizabeth Van Rooy.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to the kind staff of Beethoven House, Riverwood Square and to Dr. M. Cummings for almost 30 years of medical care.
A private service to celebrate our mother has been held. Those who so wish may make a contribution to a charity of their choice in Cathy’s memory.
Order Flowers
