Anna Marie Horgan 19192018

Anna Marie Horgan
1919-2018
Anna Marie Horgan passed away peacefully at Turnbull Nursing
Home on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Born September 26, 1919 in Saint
John, Anna Marie was the only daughter of the late John Cornelius and
Florence Elizabeth (Donovan) Horgan. She graduated from Mount Carmel
Academy followed by Mount Carmel Commercial School at which time she
then joined the National (Provincial) Bank retiring in 1979, after a
rewarding 38 year career.
Anna Marie was very proud of her Irish heritage knowing that
her great grandmother, Margaret Donovan, immigrated to Saint John as a
widow in 1833 with her six children. Anna Marie was a woman
of strong faith in the Roman Catholic Church. She was a lifelong
parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; and for
more than 70 years, she was a member of the Catholic Women’s
League (CWL). Anna Marie followed and was deeply inspired by the
philosophies and teachings of all the popes including Pope Francis,
who was named after one of her favorite saints, Saint Francis of
Assisi. Anna Marie was a member of many groups including the
Perpetual Adoration Society, the Third Order of Saint Francis of
Assisi and the Society of St. Therese « The Little
Flower ». She also supported and made many visits to
the shrines of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and Saint Joseph’s
Oratory in Quebec.
Anna Marie was a great lover of nature and spent countless
hours on the beaches of the Bay of Fundy and local rivers always
enjoying the atmosphere and their many family picnics. Her
Aunt Nellie introduced her to gardening and she grew to have a strong
passion for flowers. Anna Marie always had a beautiful
flower garden at her family home on Hazen Street in Saint John where
she also enjoyed the sensational sunsets overlooking the skyline of
the city.
She was an avid reader and along with her brother, John, had
a library many were envious to own. She was also a great
baseball fan and travelled to Boston and New York to see the
games. Up until her final days, she continued to follow and
cheer for the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays on
television.
Anna Marie was the last surviving member of her immediate
family but leaves behind many cousins and friends. She will
be especially missed by her cousin, Anne (Horgan) Hickey.
Besides her parents, Anna Marie was predeceased by her only brother,
John Joseph Horgan (2011).
Anna Marie was a kind and gentle woman and will be missed by
many. A very special thank you to the staff and friends at
the Turnbull Nursing Home for their dedication and kindness shown to
Anna Marie.

A Prayer of
Saint Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an
instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let
me sow love;
where there is injury,
pardon;
where there is doubt,
faith;
where there is despair,
hope;
where there is darkness,
light;
and where there is
sadness, joy.
O, Divine
Master, grant that I may not so
much seek to be consoled
as to console;
to be understood as to
understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving
that we
receive;
it is in pardoning that we
are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we
are
born again to
eternal life.
