Alma Gingras
Alma Gingras, who recently moved to Winnipeg after many years in Thunder Bay and Atikokan, passed away quietly in her sleep on the early hours of Friday 11 May 2018 at 92 years old. Alma was the fourth of seven children. She grew up on the family farm near Beausejour Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg to work during the Second World War years. It was there, after the war, that she met Armand Gingras. After a brief courtship they were married in 1947 and after a year in Fort Frances they moved to Atikokan until they moved to Thunder Bay in 1970.
Alma was renowned for her tireless energy, love of walking. She and Armand were particularly fond of RV’ing and were active members of the Thunder Bay Good Sam’s RV club. Alma is remembered, also, as a very practical industrious person content with her life, traits inspired by growing up on a farm during the Great Depression.
Alma had a very active church life. Her faith underpinned her many years of quiet dependable work with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Sunday School teaching, and many other church committees – she lived her faith in Christ by her service. She was known as Auntie Alma to both her family and to the families of friends for her dependability to pitch in and help where she could.
Alma is predeceased by daughter Linda in 1951, and Armand in 2009, her husband of 62 years. She is survived by a daughter, Adele (McMurtrie) of Winnipeg MB and son Marcel of Victoria BC and their families.
A memorial will be held at 11 A.M. Friday 25 May 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church, 47 Walkover Street.
In lieu of flowers, Alma would appreciate donations to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League – Canada or to the March of Dimes.
