Winnifred ‘Winnie’ Roberts
1932-2017
Canso, N.S. – Roberts, Winnifred
(Winnie)
Loving life is what Winnie did every day!
Winnie’s work on earth is complete. She has left to meet up
with her friends and family that have taken the journey before
her. Winnie is continuing to hug, sing, laugh, dance, walk,
hike trails, bake and tell stories about her life and the life of her
family. Winnie passed after a courageous battle with cancer
surrounded by her family.
She was proud of her family and they want her to know how
proud they are to have belonged to her family. They enjoyed her weekly
“Stew Day”. She embraced the values of love and gave
unselfishly to others and the community.
Winnie was born on March 26, 1932 in Halfway Cove,
Guysborough County to Annie Louise (Dort) and Leonard Vincent
MacKinnon. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold
“Francis” Roberts. She leaves behind her
children, Harold (Karen), Eric (Susan) and Susan (Brian)
O’Handley all of Canso; Paul (Marthe) of Lower Sackville and
Brenda (Terry) Standing, of Hammonds Plains. Grandchildren,
Devin, Jennifer, Janna, Adam, Tyler, Erika, Danielle & Julia.
Great-Grandchildren, Madison, Mya, Maria, Oliver, Cole, Rory, Peyton,
Jaxson, Eloise, Violet and Aurora, who were her pride and joy and her
reason for living such a vibrant and active life. Winnie was
predeceased by her siblings, Kenny, Pearl, Vidie and Leo.
She leaves behind her younger brother, Brent MacKinnon, (Truro) and
sisters, Sheila Lawrence (Canso) and Elaine Bushell (Canso) she loved
them like her own children. We all have amazing memories to treasure
about her for the rest of our lives. We have been
blessed!
A long-time volunteer at All Saints Church, the Canso Seaside
Manor and the Palliative Care Program of Eastern Memorial Hospital,
Winnie gave happily to her community and was proud to say she was from
Canso. In light of her love for these organizations donations may be
made to those charities, or the charity of your choice in lieu of
flowers. Winnie will be waked from 6-9pm on Friday August
11, 2017 at All Saints Church, Canso, followed by a celebration of her
life the next day at 11am. Arrangements are under the care of the
Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Words of comfort may be
forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com
The world has
lost a kind, loving and compassionate woman and Heaven has gained a
very special angel.
