Obituary for William Michael Korchak
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of William “Bill” Korchak of Pinewood, Ontario on Sunday August 27, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bill was born on June 9, 1935 in Vita, MB to parents Metro and Mary Korchak. As a young man, Bill helped his parents run a large turkey farm, and operated a small business with his brother Boris in Vita, Manitoba, and was employed at the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, Michigan. He met the love of his life, Rachel Arpin, at his brother’s wedding. On January 10, 1970 Bill and Rachel were married in Pinewood. While managing the farm with Rachel, Bill led a successful career as a journeyman/electrician. On December 18, 1974, along came their pride and joy, a son, Kevin. Many occupations and talents were a part of his life including running his own logging company, as well as being a hands on mechanic. This trade was proudly passed on to his son. One pastime that Bill enjoyed in recent years was going to the Stratton Men’s and the Dawson Women’s Fastball games.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Metro,and Mary Korchak, his brother Boris, his infant nephew Richard and his in-laws Larry and Sophie Arpin.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Rachel (Arpin) of 47 years, his son Kevin, daughter-in-law Jennifer and his two precious granddaughters Isabell and Samantha of Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Bill is also survived by his sister in law Josie Korchak, nephew Dwayne (Kaela) Korchak, as well as numerous in laws, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 30, 2017 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home, Emo, ON followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Church in Pinewood on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11 a.m
Pallbearers: Dwayne Korchak, Zach Korchak, Ken Korchak, Brian Korchak, Wayne Korchak, Norman Bednar, Jackson Arpin.
Honourary Pallbearers: Jarvis and Elsie Korchak, Josie Korchak, Jessica Korchak, Kaela Korchak, Elaine Lilley, Skylar Arpin, Hayley Arpin, Joanne Swire, Ruby Fitch, Willy and Olga Waskul
Interment will take place in Our Lady of the Way Catholic Cemetery at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the War Amps, c/o Northridge Funeral Home, Box 89, Emo, Ontario, P0W 1E0 in Bill’s memory.
