WILLIAM JAMES
BARRY
ST. GEORGE’S, NL
JAN. 31, 1928 – NOV. 7, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of William
“Bill” James Barry announce his passing at the Sir Thomas
Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, NL, on November 7, 2017 at the age
of 89 years.
Bill’s passion was family, fishing and farming. He
fished lobster until he was 77 years old. When he decided to retire
from fishing, he began planting vegetables, especially tomatoes, which
he would give to members of the community. He did this so that he
could give back to others a little of the blessings that he felt he
had.
Bill helped his beloved wife, Susan, to raise a family of
five and then went on to co-parent two of his grandchildren, Mandi and
Samm. His favorite past time was to listen to his music, play crib and
sit in the evening and watch Gunsmoke or Bonanza with his daughter
Suzanne.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Susan Barry (Colombe), his
son Louis as well as his parents, Annie (Alexander) and John Barry Sr.
He was also predeceased by sister Mamie, brothers Ron, Jim, Joe and
Clayton and his best friend, Gordon Colombe. He leaves to mourn his
sister Anne (Vaughn) and brothers Bern and Johnny (Bernice). He leaves
a treasure trove of memories for his sons and daughters, Lucy, Bill
(Jessie), Ron (Dauna), Kevin (Alicia) and Suzanne. Left with the
memories of a loving grandfather are grandchildren Mandi, Samm,
Tracey, Lori, Sonny, Chad, Suzie, Rhonda, Cheryl, Billi-Jo, Trevor,
Natasha, Chase, Suzanne and Louis as well as twenty-three great
grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
One of Bill’s final requests was that we continue
to feed the cats that have always found their way to his house.
Therefore the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations
can be made to “Save a Stray Rescue” (Jeannie
Aucoin).
Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley
Crematorium.
Visitation will take place at Fillatre’s Funeral
Home in Stephenville Crossing on Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 7 – 9
p.m. Funeral service on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 10a.m.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Cultural Centre
(formerly, United Church) in St George’s immediately
following the service on Friday.
The family entrusted arrangements to Fillatre’s
Funeral Home in Stephenville Crossing. .
