William “Billy” Henry Edgett, 97, of Fundy Royal
Manor, Hillsborough and formerly of Lakeview Tower, Riverview passed
away peacefully on Sunday, January 29th, 2017 at the Moncton
Hospital.
Billy was born in Alma on December 26th, 1919 the son of
the late Charles and Sarah (Rossiter) Edgett.
He served with the Canadian Armed Forces as a
Royal Engineer from 1941-1946, in Italy and helped in the
liberation of Holland. He grew up in Alma and worked at the
Fundy National Park for 37 years until his retirement. He
was a licensed Stationary Engineer and Plumber. His skills
were also used to help everyone in the Alma area that needed a
hand. He never stood still and enjoyed sharing his work
ethics with others. He was a great role model for all the
young people in Alma. You could always find him socializing
at the Alma wharf after supper and sharing many stories. He was a
loyal member of the Orange Lodge for over 50 years until it
disbanded. He also was a member of the Hillsborough Legion
Branch #32. Billy was a very generous and kind man who loved
his family. He would do anything for his girls and their
families, they were his pride and joy. He will be remembered
for his sweet smile and helping hands. ” A golden heart
stopped beating hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to
prove to us, he only takes the best.”
He will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Kathleen
Goodwin (Tony) of Riverview; son-in-law, Russell Elliott of Riverview;
treasured grandchildren, Darlene Moar, Stephen Elliott, Erika Goodwin,
Erynn Golder (Brendan) and Ryan Goodwin; precious great grandchildren,
Jamie, Sarah, Kimberly, Jonathan, Stephanie, Madeline, Rowan, Peyton
and Declan. He will also be missed by several nieces,
nephews, all the Oven’s Family in Scotland, extended family and
friends.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate
family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by
his beloved wife, Isabella (Ovens) Edgett; his daughter, Mary Elliott;
granddaughter, Marissa; brothers, Calvin, Ernest, Giford, Vincent,
Edward; sisters, Bernice, Aleta, Marion, Marie, Alnora, Eleanor, Mary
and Muriel.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service
and celebration of his life will be held at the Albert County Funeral
Home on Friday, February 3rd, 2017 at 2:00pm with Pastor David Ross
officiating. Interment will be in Alma United Cemetery, Alma
at a later date. The family will be meeting with relatives
and friends for further sharing of memories and for refreshments
following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donation to the Canadian Cancer Society
or Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly
appreciated.
