Wayne Douglas Nixon was born on December 11, 1941 at Wapella, Saskatchewan. He passed away December 4, 2017 at the Leader Union Hospital at Leader, Saskatchewan. Wayne was the third child born to Kendal and Hazel Nixon and lived his early years in the Wapella area at a country store and attending country schools. At the age of 15, Wayne moved to Estuary, Saskatchewan with his family where his father was a grain elevator manager. He followed in the footsteps of his father and managed a grain elevator for most of his working life. Wayne’s career was halted abruptly in 1975 at the age of 34 when he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage leaving him paralyzed on his left side. The last elevator Wayne managed was for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Leader, Saskatchewan when he retired in 1980. On July 23, 1966 he married Joan Nagel and was able to celebrate 50 years of marriage on July 23, 2016. Left to cherish Wayne’s memory, along with Joan, are their children: Blair (Carolyn), Scott (Beverly) and Jodi (Jeff) grandchildren: Mitchell, Kylie (Tyson), Taylor, Eric (Lindsey), Ty (Ashlee) and Amy great grandchildren: Ava, Hunter and Ethen sisters: Gail (Terry) and Sheila (George), sister-in-law: Noreen, and numerous nieces and nephews. There was no formal funeral service at Wayne’s request. Family and close friends gathered for a celebration of Wayne’s life. Wayne was a kind and humble man that loved to tease and laugh with all those he loved.
