Obituary of Walter Palach
Passed away peacefully at University Gates LTC on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at the age of 95 years.
Walter will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 69 years, Helen; his children, John (Donna) Palach of Woodstock; Randy (Catherine) Palach, Bonnie (Eric) Rajcak, Susie (Cindy) Palach, daughter-in-law Joyce Palach, all of Waterloo; and by his many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his son, Anthony James (August, 2017), and son Edward John (in infancy); his parents Teofil and Otylia Palach; brothers John, Joseph, Frank and sisters Helen, Anna, Mary and Martha.
Walter was born February 13, 1922 in Wejherowo Poland. He served during the Second World War under British 8th Army Polish II Corps, and was a veteran of Monte Cassino. After serving tours of duty in 10 different countries, he came to Canada in 1946 from Great Britain. Walter was a proud member of the Royal Canadian and Polish Legions. He was a long-time employee of Wilfrid Laurier University, an avid gardener and a skillful handyman.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes RC Church, 75 Bluevale St. N., Waterloo, on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at 11:00am with the Rev. Aleksander Mazur S.A.C. as Celebrant. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Interment at Parkview Cemetery will take place at a later date.
