Walter Herbert “Square” Nolan
1924-2017
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Walter Herbert
Nolan, husband of the late Nevenda Theresa (Alberts) Nolan announce
his passing, which occurred at Ridgewood Veterans Wing on Thursday,
January 26, 2017 at the age of 92. Born on September 19, 1924 in
Hampton, he was the son of the late Herbert and Catherine (Thorne)
Nolan.
Walter was a veteran of World War II and was a member of
Carleton York Service Club for many years. He was part of the
“D-Day” allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944
and was recognized for his efforts by being awarded the rank of
“Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of
Honour”.
Walter will be greatly missed by his son, Basil (Cathy) Nolan
of Halifax, NS; daughters, Linda Nolan and Kimberly (Brian) McDermott,
both of Saint John; as well as step brother, Terry (Barb) Nolan of
Moncton; step sister, Carol (Edward) MacKay of Amherst and several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife, Nevenda, he was also
predeceased by his son, Earl Nolan; daughter, Marsha (Greg) Murphy;
brothers, Harold (Pat), Lee, Roy and Doug Nolan; sisters, Eva (Arnold)
Cross, Betty (Bob) Pennilton and Phyllis McCaulstlin.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of
Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111
Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will be held on
Monday, January 30, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A graveside
service will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens, Latimore Lake
Road, Saint John on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11:00
AM.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Stone Church
of Saint John NB, where Walter enjoyed many years of fellowship, peace
and comfort or to a charity of the donor’s
choice.
