Virginie Rollande Fortier – 2016

May 17 1923- December 9,2016
Born: Vimy Alberta
Following a brief illness Rollande passed away on December 9, 2016 at the age of 93. She had been receiving wonderful care at the Harbours of Newport Care Centre, a loving community, which she has called home for the past five years. Prior to moving to Calgary twelve years ago, she resided in Vimy and subsequently St Albert.
To mourn her loss she leaves her son Gilbert (Lennie), daughter Diane (Rob) Lowe, grandsons Rene (Tannia), Shawn (Jennifer), grandchildren Lauren, Ashley, and Keeley. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurent, parents Rudolph and Alma Gouin, brothers Yvon, Robert, and Lomer Gouin, sisters Giselle Lucas, Lucille McEwan and Jeanine Brunelle.
Rollande had a wonderful sense of humour and had a special joie de vivre, she loved life and had a passion for golf, rarely a day going by without her saying how much she missed the game. She and Laurent travelled extensively and especially enjoyed the many winters during their retirement years that they spent in Scottsdale Arizona, enjoying golf, square dancing and bridge. She will be greatly missed and life will not be the same without her.
A private family gathering will be held and internment of her ashes will be laid to rest in the family plot in the Holy Cross Cemetery, St. Albert, in the spring.
Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved still missed and very dear.
