Virginia Doris Drialich (Ma)
Peacefully on June 15, 2017 at the Selkirk General Hospital after a short courageous battle with cancer Virginia passed away with her family by her side. Virginia leaves to mourn her passing husband of 56 years Lawrence, sons Rick and Allan (Marisa), daughter Debbie (Wayne); grandchildren Terri (Troy), Wayne, Jessica, Megan and Harley; great grandchildren Celina and Tristan. She is also survived by sisters Pat, Sharon (Brian), Marion (Michael), nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by father Dmytro Marko and mother Eugenie Marko.
Virginia was born in Poplar Park in 1942. She married Lawrence in 1961 together they started a family and business LAD Enterprises in East Selkirk, MB. At the time of her passing they were in the 44th year of business. Over the years they had achieved many milestones including District Dealer of the Year for MB and SK, Regional Dealer of the Year for MB, SK, AB, BC & the Yukon. As well as Canadian Dealer of the Year for the year of 1997, all three were a first for Ski-doo snowmobiles.
Virginia (Ma) was instrumental in starting snowmobile racing at the Festival on the Red. Also she was one of the founding members of the MSDRA Racing Association and was there until the end. She was heavily responsible in 1991 for bringing the World Series of Drag Racing to Selkirk, first time ever out of the USA.
Virginia had a definite passion for gardening, she loved her flowers. Her dill pickles were famous to many people as her granddaughter asked her for more pickles that made her eyes wiggle.
We would like to thank the staff at the Selkirk General Emergency for their care and compassion at our time of need. Also we would like to thank the “Taco Girls” at the McPhillips Station Casino valet parking for their humour and companionship they gave Virginia.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 20th from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 21st at 2:30 p.m. both being held at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk. Interment will be held at the Poplar Park Ukrainian Orthodox Churchyard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
