Obituary for Viola Mae Penney (nee Renick)
Viola Mae Penney
(nee Renick)
Mae passed away at age 93 in the early morning of April 13, 2017 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook when she went home to be with her Lord and to re-join her loving husband of 58 years – Jack Penney – who had predeceased her two months earlier on February 11th after a difficult battle with heart disease.
Mae was born on March 13, 1924 in Wardner, BC and is survived by her only son, Terry Wilson (Trudy), her granddaughter Andrea Wilson, grandson Grant Wilson (Gabby), brother Jim Renick (Eileen), sister Judy Renick and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents George and Pearl Renick, and her sisters Georgetta, Lauretta, Inez, Marie and Evelyn and her brother John.
Before retiring to Cranbrook in 1988, Mae and Jack spent many years in the Canadian North as Jack was employed with the Hudson’s Bay Company as a Grocery Manager in Churchill, MB; Thompson, MB; Nipigon, ON; and Fort Smith, NWT before moving to Yellowknife – where Mae was a receptionist for the NWT Government and Jack was a Corrections Officer at the Yellowknife Correctional Centre until both retired.
At their request, no service is planned and their ashes will be scattered together at a place of their choosing.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
