Verne passed away at Trillium Lodge in Parksville on Monday, November 13th, 2017. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Margaret; three sons, Dale -Yellowknife, David (Pat) – Victoria, and Donald (Caroline) – Campbell River; four grandchildren, Bryce, Addison, Nicholas, and Alyssa.
Verne was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Port Alberni with his parents and siblings in 1936. Verne attended school and was married in Port Alberni and all three of his children were born there.
Verne’s working career was almost entirely with Chevron Canada. First, as a delivery driver, and finishing as an independent businessman/agent. He spent 3 years in Ocean Falls, followed by 28 years in Sechelt, before coming home to Vancouver Island in 1999 and retiring.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Rd, Parksville, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.
