van der Meer, Grietje “Margaret” (nee Geertsma) – peacefully at Stirling Manor, with her family at her side, on Friday, December 15th, 2017 in her 98th year. Wife of the late Sieger van der Meer. Daughter of the late Hepke and Jantje Geertsma. Loving mother of Arnold Harold Vandermeer (Sue) of Foxboro, Harold (Bea) Vandermeer of Ottawa, Jenny Vandermeer of Orono, and Ann (Jim) Burkholder of Uxbridge. Grietje is loved by her 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. She is survived by sisters-in-law Kenau van der Meer and Tilly Posthumous and her brother-in-law, Wietse van der Meer. She is predeceased by her brothers Marten and Hendrik Geertsma and her sister Antje Kingma. She is also fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and extended family both here and in the Netherlands. Memorial Service will be held at Maranatha Church, 100 College Street West on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Family viewing at Steele Funeral Home, 30 Moira Street West, Belleville, starting at 10:00 am, departing at 11:00 am for interment at Elmwood Cemetery.
Arrangements entrusted to the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel (613 968-2273).
The family extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful team at Stirling Manor for their care and compassion.
Grietje was a volunteer for the Heart & Stroke Foundation for many years, Memorial Donations to them would be a fitting tribute to her memory.
