GARRAHAN, VALERIE AILEEN (née Harley) – Has passed away at 90 years of age on March 5, 2017 at Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge, Cornwall. Valerie was born on October 19, 1926 near St. Ives, England. In 1946 she was married to Alfred “Peter” Garrahan (Royal Marine Commando), started a family, and eventually emigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Cornwall, Ontario. She worked for many years as a medical secretary in the office of Dr. Michael Cox. In retirement she spent her time working with a number of charities as well as travelling to take part in Elderhostel programs and visits with children/grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Peter and daughter Catherine. She is survived by daughters Lorraine (David Anderson) of Windsor, Patricia of Saltash, UK, and Teresa of Kingston, ON as well as one son Peter (Louise) of Ottawa. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Petra (David Smith), Steffi (Don Allen), Richard (Clara Carneiro Sampaio), Brendon, and Kevin and two great grandchildren, Owen and Andrew all of whom she was extremely proud of. A special thank you to the staff at Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge and in particular 3rd floor east for taking such tremendous care of “Val” as well as the needs of our family during the difficult final days.
